I'm such a sucker for couples that are better together than they are apart and this couple is certainly one of those. David and Ev fall fast - instalove - but I loved every moment of it! David's crazy life as a rock star has gotten to him. He can't write songs and the fake world around him leaves him empty. Evelyn grounds him from the first moment they meet. And while he brings some crazy into her life, Ev responds to David like she has no one else. Better together. That's what couples should always be - better together. But when two people come from such different worlds, there are bound to be issues. Lots and lots of issues. A $200 tank top is one of them.I really enjoyed these characters - the whole band really. I'm excited that there are more books for each. Mal (the DRUMMER - I so love drummers) is the one I'm most excited to read and it's next! All these characters are the reason I fell in love with this book.Of course, the story was interesting with lots of places for me to cheer and shout. I loved that (at different points in the story) each of them struggled to let the other back into their heart. It felt like the relationship had to be earned again and again despite how quickly it happened. That made up for the instalove for me.The writing is first person (my favorite) and completely from Evelyn's point of view. I think the only thing that could have made this book better would be if we got to be inside David's head. All the little plot points where wrapped up - something that I always look for. And the way is paved for Mal. He makes a comment near the end of this book that he's not going down the marriage path. HA! You're next sucker!Rock star drama, cuddle time with side of yummy kissing - this story will capture you!

So this book is about Ev and David finding each other again, and you can’t help but cheer this crazy fun, couple on, enjoying the sizzling scaps of THAT night (which could be a novella in itself) that are revealed, bit by by as they get to know each other … again. I enjoyed how the author had David or Ev suggest ways to each other to bring back the memories of that night. Kissing is one, but a man after my own huge huggin' heart, David likes to treat Ev as his cuddle toy…A fave part of the story of mine is a case in point ...“Will you sing something for me?”He made a noncommittal noise.“Did you sing to me that night?”He gave me a pained smile. “Yeah, I did.”“So it might bring back a memory. Please sing me something?”“Okay,” he huffed. “Turn back around then. We were in spoon position for this.”I snuggled back down against him and he shuffled closer. Not even tequila would inoculate a memory of such an epic, hard, deep hugging night. Lol.***About David***For a rock star, he’s actually quite down to earth, and romantic. This bad boy’s got his own damage for sure from his past but that doesn’t stop him from being the passionate slightly crazy f he is. He adores Ev and that’s bloody sensational. I also liked how Kylie Scott introduced us to the other band members here, the ultra bad and damaged lead singer Jimmy (also David’s brother), the cocky, sex mad drummer, Mal, and the brooding, grunty bearded one, Ben (that brother is a bit too serious to share my freakin name but hey).***Overall***Darlin’s what a hilarious HOT read! Kylie’s message is clear, every woman deserves to enjoy a happily ever after with a sexy rock star and better still be treated like a ROCK STAR in your man’s life.

Evelyn Thomas was the beautiful student and barista that hit Vegas when she turned twenty one. After a wild night, she woke up with a huge hangover and an even bigger rock on her left hand. The problem was....she remembered none of it. Scott started the book with the morning after then began to outline the chaotic days following. The majority of the book focused on a few days; however, the last few chapters fast forwarded a month into the future.Lick was written with a single POV, Evelyn's. Although it worked, I totally craved David's perspective, especially in the beginning. Overall the story was well written and well developed; however, there were a few editing errors. Additionally, I was desiring more depth into the history and psyche of both main characters, but especially David. It would have added more dimension and complexity to the mix.All in all, it was a quick and enjoyable read. Scott introduced the rest of the band with humor, providing the perfect back drop for additional books in the series. Next up is Mal'a story in Play.

I just finished reading this novel in 2 sittings. I must say, it was a fun, fast read. The author is able to hook you right away and make you curious enough to keep going. Within the first three chapters, I HAD to know what happened! I also really appreciated the way her military service and experience as an Army Wife, showed through in some of the small details, emotions, and personal experiences in the battle scenes. I look forward to reading more books in the future from Mrs. Gallagher.

After reading the first chapter, I made certain I made time to read this book in it's entirety, in one sitting. Each chapter kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. Excellent read.

This is a sweet time travel story set between WWII and current day with a young woman trying to save the life of her great-grandfather.

This was an excellent book, especially if you like time travel. Any book you can’t wait to get back to has to be good and this is one of those.

Prepare to get nothing done as you embark on an amazing journey. I read the entire book in 2 days and could not put it down. I finished reading the book last night and am still thinking about it.

Watching the news, it is pretty easy to form harsh judgments of those who live a gang life. I'm not saying this book will make you sympathetic to gangs, but it will give you real insight as to how a gang member is created. Sexually and violently graphic, but riveting. I have read several autobiographies by involved and former gang members, and this is the most well-written, on top of being very detailed and honest. Horrifying and heartbreaking. Read all three of his books!

I'm not giving this book 5 stars because of the writing, but because the events were so eye-opening. As a middle school teacher in the Chicago area, Sanchez's story reminded me of how much kids are affected by the neglect and abuse of their parents. Sanchez's absences from school made me sick with worry about some of my own students who miss a lot of school.I couldn't believe what a terrible life Sanchez had before he even started going to school. It's unfortunate that his mother not only allowed abuse to happen to her child, but also participated in it. At the end, Sanchez says he blames his mother, and I completely agree with him.Throughout the retelling of the experiences Sanchez had as a gang member of the Latin Kings, I felt really conflicted. I rooted for him because I knew he has such a hard life and was doing what he needed to do to survive, but I was also sick to my stomach with how many people he killed and the way he disrespected and abused women. I kept checking myself by reminding myself that he was a teenager throughout the telling of this story and that he does reflect and say that drugs and alcohol made him "brave" and that he now understands his actions were wrong.I also think about how Sanchez CHOSE to get out, even if it took him six years. That's a really hard thing to do, and I think that takes courage. Throughout his whole retelling of his time as a Latin King, I was amazed at how long Sanchez survived and after finishing the book, I still don't completely understand gang life.While the content of his story is wildly inappropriate for Middle and high school students, unfortunately, those are the kids that need to read it to truly understand the lifestyle of a gang member, and I have nothing but respect for Sanchez for telling his story to help save someone else.Given Sanchez's background, I didn't expect great writing; however, I do think more sophisticated writing would enhance the emotional effects of his story. Of course I was sad about what happens, but despite all the tragedy in the story, I didn't cry at all or ever come close, and I feel like maybe I should have.

I found this book completely by accident. I was searching for "My Reviews" and this along with a thousand other books and gadgets popped up. I saw this (not sure why it came up on a search of "My Reviews"), and it sounded interesting so I ordered a sample. The sample is all it took - I didn't hesitate to order the book, and immediately ordered his next book (Once a King Always a King) when I finished this one. His third book will be next (Lady Q).Sanchez's story telling is brilliant - a clean, crisp, and remarkably detailed history of the events of a hardcore gang banger whose life revolved around alcohol, drugs, violence, and sex. Although there is plenty of abuse, it's not a "woe is me" tale of abuse or how the system beat him down. He doesn't glamorize the lifestyle. It's simply a tragic story of a kid who didn't know another life but somehow found a way out. It reminded me, "There but for the grace of God go I."I literally couldn't stop reading this book - I read it walking to work, eating lunch, and every spare second of the day.

As an abused young boy Lil Loco (which was his gang name) was just looking for love and support. He was looking for a place where he wouldn't be abused or mistreated. In return though he mistreated multiple women, became involved in crimes and swore his loyalty to the Latin Kings. Reymundo gives an open and honest look into life in a gang, the situations that he finds himself in are heartbreaking at times and make you angry at others. I have read this book several times and I am sure I will read it more.

Although Reyes presents a more violent and crude picture of gang life than Always Running and Down These Mean Streets, I appreciate his honesty. His story is sad and true for many young Latino men and women growing up in these neighborhoods. It is a devastatingly accurate portrayal of how we as a society and "the system" continue to disproportionately fail our minority youth. Accounts like these are a must read for everyone regardless of race, socio economic status, gender, religion etc. we should all know what our role is in putting a stop to racism in our communities and fighting for equality for all. No child should ever be allowed to grow up in these conditions, much less to become killers and/or drug addicts.Also Highly recommend, 13th documentary on Netflix

It was an okay book. Very brutal, but then he had a brutal life and came from an abusive household. It was interesting that he always saw himself as a coward. He's a serial rapist and he killed quite a few people, how is it that he's still a free man?. Maybe its in his next book. This book also reads like a book of exploints, not a book to say don't join a gang. On the contrary the way he tells it Latin Kings offer security, identity, status, stability, financial help etc. he keeps saying the bosses are the only ones profiting blah blah and they don't help blah blah and then directly contradicts what he said.

This is a very medical text, have a medical dictionary nearby while reading it. That shouldn't be a turn off though because it explains what your doctor knows and is looking for. There is tons of information in this text that you should know as a type one diabetic that will help you out with your disease. Everything is explained as your doctor learned it in medical school. so if he/she tells you something you can go home and look it up again. I like the very technical aspects of this book but for a beginner it is definitely too much. Buy a medical dictionary with if if you don't all ready have one ad know that this isn't your usual diabetes book.

Reading about the positive efforts of Righteous Gentiles provides a different perspective to the Holocaust. Sugihara had to decide whether he would follow his heart or follow his government's wishes. Few Holocaust era diplomats and leaders were willing to risk their job and their family's security. This book speaks directly to the choices that all people make. Standing up for what one believes is a character trait that should not be dismissed. This story raises many important questions that can be addressed at various age levels. I recommend that Sugihara's story be included in introductory discussions of the Holocaust.

I never knew about this man. My students wrote character traits about him and loved learning a piece of history.

Everyone knows about Schindler, no one knows about Mr. Sugihara. This is a wonderful story that should make the rounds. We can use more heroes, and Mr. Sugihara was most definitely a hero. The holocaust was an unspeakably terrible time in world history. Too many countries and too many people were complicit by action or inaction when Jews, Gypsies, Poles, political dissidents and homosexuals were slaughtered. The few people who followed their conscience are so amazing.

A fascinating story of humanism and taking a risk for others. Good lesson diversity and ethics.

The story of Mr. Sugihara's involvement in helping Jewish people in WWII is compelling and little known. I am especially interested in the nation/people of Japan but had never heard of this historic event. After reading the book I saw the video and found it fascinating as well. The book is written in a manner especially appropriate for school age children to read of one who chose costly courage, diligence, and compassion over personal safety and promotion at a tragic time in world history. In the Sugihara story, one also sees a family involvement in difficult decision making.

Even though this is a "comic book" it tells the seemingly unknown story of Chiune Sugihara, who seemingly was a real hero for the Jewish community before World War II. As a member of Japan's consulate in Lithuania he issued thousands of travel visas for people who would have otherwise been trapped by the approaching soldiers of the third reich. Going against his government's instructions, he was able to save somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 folks from a sure death. Why haven't we ever learned of him in History Classes? Here is a man who was able to do all of this and never fired a shot in World War II. A very worthwhile book!

This book is an excellent way for anyone wanting a quick explanation about the Fugu plan and how one Japanese man saved thousands of Jewish lives during the Holocaust. I bought the book to read to the children in my religious school class and made sure to read it myself first, thinking also that I would buy an "adult" version of the story as well. However, the illustrations and the recounting of the events are very well done and easy to understand without being condescending. There are also additional notes at the end which are very informative.

Excellent story. I love that is shows another example of Japanese goodness in WW2, rather than the focus on Pearl Harbor that so many have. I used it with 8th graders for argument writing: Should Sugihara have helped the refugees? It also provided a forum to explain passports, embassies, diplomats, etc.
