About the Author

Koos Stadler has been a career officer in the South African National Defence Force for more than 30 years. Twenty-four of these he served in the elite South African Special Forces, better known as the “Recces” - spending 10 years in active service during the long drawn-out guerilla war against the then South West Africa Peoples’ Organisation (SWAPO) on the border between Namibia and Angola. Stadler conducted many exceptionally sensitive missions, often facing extreme conditions of hunger, thirst, loneliness and danger. Fear was a constant companion and Stadler does not shy away from acknowledging this and sharing his innermost thoughts in the pages of Recce. He ended his career on a high note during a 4-year tenure as Defence Attaché to Saudi Arabia where he spent much of his time exploring the desert. During a 200 km solo hike through the Empty Quarter, one of the most barren stretches of sand on earth, he relived his small teams experiences and in his own words “buried the last of his fears in the sand”.

Good Read. Koos Stadler is Honest & Frank about his Feelings & Fear. This is Something some Authors won't admit to. He gives one some insight into the Selection & Training Courses. I have a Friend that served with the 44 Para Brigade Pathfinder Company, so I really liked this book.

Easy to read biography and book about small team operations in less known conflict between Republic of South Africa against Soviet Union and Cuba.

By far the best personal account of a Special Forces operator I have read. Well written, honest and enthralling. A perfect blend of military detail and personal story.

If you know anything at all about soldiering, you will understand how difficult these missions were.I got scared reading in bed.It is one thing to operate in a group, and quite another when it gets down to one or two or three.Try it.Absolute top of the scale special forces work, unmatched anywhere else. These guys had basically zero logistic support when it got down to it, and they were fighting the whole world as well.Superbly told, and humbly told.......which is a characteristic of a man who could actually do this work, and come back alive time and again.No grandiose rah rah rah as is seen way too often in modern military books.

Incredible tales about a not so well known war against comunism un southern Africa.

Outdated material but there are a few good schematics that can help if you get lost with reassembly. Some of the cleaning tips are helpful as well. Nothing in this book is mandatory for a Z owner.

Photos are all black & white and not very good quality

Very useful information. I have a couple of complaints about the book:1. The binding is weak. Pages come loose from the binding and fall out of the book.2. The photos are too small and often too dark to make out detail. The caption will say to look at such-and-such and you can't see it.3. A suggestion for future editions. One of the main reasons I loved "How to Keep Your VW Alive" was that, unlike every other manual including this one, the author would tell you exactly what tools were needed so that you could crawl under the car with precisely the right wrench in hand. That is a real timesaver.

This book is great if you have an early Z car and need some pointers on how to restore/refresh your Z. A good mechanic would figure a lot of this out by using the factory repair manual, however there are tips and tricks here that the author gives you based on his hands-on tear down and rebuild that will save you time, money and effort in your pursuit of the perfect Z car. Some of the info is outdated but that's to be expected with anything in print. Updates on his info can always be found with a Google search.

I'm such a sucker for couples that are better together than they are apart and this couple is certainly one of those. David and Ev fall fast - instalove - but I loved every moment of it! David's crazy life as a rock star has gotten to him. He can't write songs and the fake world around him leaves him empty. Evelyn grounds him from the first moment they meet. And while he brings some crazy into her life, Ev responds to David like she has no one else. Better together. That's what couples should always be - better together. But when two people come from such different worlds, there are bound to be issues. Lots and lots of issues. A $200 tank top is one of them.I really enjoyed these characters - the whole band really. I'm excited that there are more books for each. Mal (the DRUMMER - I so love drummers) is the one I'm most excited to read and it's next! All these characters are the reason I fell in love with this book.Of course, the story was interesting with lots of places for me to cheer and shout. I loved that (at different points in the story) each of them struggled to let the other back into their heart. It felt like the relationship had to be earned again and again despite how quickly it happened. That made up for the instalove for me.The writing is first person (my favorite) and completely from Evelyn's point of view. I think the only thing that could have made this book better would be if we got to be inside David's head. All the little plot points where wrapped up - something that I always look for. And the way is paved for Mal. He makes a comment near the end of this book that he's not going down the marriage path. HA! You're next sucker!Rock star drama, cuddle time with side of yummy kissing - this story will capture you!

So this book is about Ev and David finding each other again, and you can’t help but cheer this crazy fun, couple on, enjoying the sizzling scaps of THAT night (which could be a novella in itself) that are revealed, bit by by as they get to know each other … again. I enjoyed how the author had David or Ev suggest ways to each other to bring back the memories of that night. Kissing is one, but a man after my own huge huggin' heart, David likes to treat Ev as his cuddle toy…A fave part of the story of mine is a case in point ...“Will you sing something for me?”He made a noncommittal noise.“Did you sing to me that night?”He gave me a pained smile. “Yeah, I did.”“So it might bring back a memory. Please sing me something?”“Okay,” he huffed. “Turn back around then. We were in spoon position for this.”I snuggled back down against him and he shuffled closer. Being David’s cuddle toy was a wonderful thing. I couldn’t’ imagine anything better.***I can feel the heat!***Damnnnnnn. Nice work Kylie Scott. Way to set a mans kindle on fire. David and Ev are scorching hot together. Not even tequila would inoculate a memory of such an epic, hard, deep hugging night. Lol.***About David***For a rock star, he’s actually quite down to earth, and romantic. This bad boy’s got his own damage for sure from his past but that doesn’t stop him from being the passionate slightly crazy f he is. He adores Ev and that’s bloody sensational. I also liked how Kylie Scott introduced us to the other band members here, the ultra bad and damaged lead singer Jimmy (also David’s brother), the cocky, sex mad drummer, Mal, and the brooding, grunty bearded one, Ben (that brother is a bit too serious to share my freakin name but hey).***Overall***Darlin’s what a hilarious HOT read! Kylie’s message is clear, every woman deserves to enjoy a happily ever after with a sexy rock star and better still be treated like a ROCK STAR in your man’s life.

Lick was the first book in the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott.David Ferris was the gorgeous, bad boy guitarist for the insanely popular rock band Stage Dive. Evelyn Thomas was the beautiful student and barista that hit Vegas when she turned twenty one. After a wild night, she woke up with a huge hangover and an even bigger rock on her left hand. The problem was....she remembered none of it. Scott started the book with the morning after then began to outline the chaotic days following. The majority of the book focused on a few days; however, the last few chapters fast forwarded a month into the future.Lick was written with a single POV, Evelyn's. Although it worked, I totally craved David's perspective, especially in the beginning. Overall the story was well written and well developed; however, there were a few editing errors. Additionally, I was desiring more depth into the history and psyche of both main characters, but especially David. It would have added more dimension and complexity to the mix.All in all, it was a quick and enjoyable read. Scott introduced the rest of the band with humor, providing the perfect back drop for additional books in the series. Next up is Mal'a story in Play.
