Well, it's a unique book to be sure. It is quite thick and large and covers a lot of sometimes questionable ground. The author is clearly very focused on his work and some of it I found interesting and new. The artwork is very interesting and creative. The "sacred" sexual positions, illustrated by a different artist - also very talented - is a fairly short section and some of them would require a very healthy practice of yoga and stretching to be even remotely comfortable for the average person... The massage section is quite good and shows the author knows his techniques. He gets into some aspects of erotic massage that are often neglected in more middle of the road massage texts. However, as one reviewer said, this is not strictly a book on tantra. It is more a book on the authors very unique synthesis/take on tantra. The last section of the book is an in depth discussion of "revealed" esoteric techniques and practices transmitted to the author by his spirit guides and even he says he is not always sure if it isn't "woo woo." That doesn't mean it won't teach you anything. But, classic sexual tantra, this is not. A good massage book and a good discussion of having planned, what he calls "ceremonial sex" sexual adventures together with a partner. Some are a bit out there for me personally, but others might really get into it. As in any other area personal taste varies... The author sees everything spiritual as centered around orgasms and describes multiple types, so it is a bit obsessed at times. Clearly a labor of love/obsession. That's not always bad, though. If the New Age stuff doesn't put you off or just make you laugh, you might get some good tips from it. If that just seems totally nonsensical to you, it would probably just irritate you. But, much of the advice and tone that are given throughout the book is aimed at teaching people to be really observant, more skilled, thoughtful and patient lovers - always a good thing. You have to be willing to do this, though and so many people are just truly lazy in bed. Still, it might (and is intended to) inspire some good experimentation and creativity if you have a lover who is up for it. If that is the case, it is well worth the money. If not, well, you pay your money and you take your chances... I'm really leaning towards 3.5 stars, mainly because it really isn't classical tantra and the title implies it is... Of course, the term has now been used to cover a ridiculously wide range of material at this point, so that may be petty of me, but it was not really what I was looking for.

This is a very easy to relax and read kind of book. You can keep it open to the side of you on the bed while massaging your partner and not miss a beat. It's informative, straight forward, and beautifully written. Recommend for all couples looking to get closer and as a must give gift for newlyweds.

This is a really well articulated definition of Tantra, not your ordinary California-style fancy sex manual. Recommended for anyone who understands that Tantra is a way of approaching life and our sexuality is but one aspect of our full human expression.

Very clear and helpful.A lot of the text is laid out in a poetic format, which I found a little bit distracting at first. However, I found that the line breaks actually created a rhythm that matched the sense of movement in the illustrations.The drawings are very good. One advantage of drawings over photographs is that the artist can make things clearer in many ways than the photographer, just by leaving out the unessential details. A second advantage is that explicit photographs are just too pornographic for many people. A pencil sketch is a bit more abstract and artistic, and therefore less shocking, making it easier for those people to assimilate the information without the negative emotional reaction.One reviewer downgraded the book for not being about Tantra as a religion. There are a lot of people on the Internet who like trashing books that don't fit their religious beliefs. That's stupid. Read the subtitle. This is a book about sexuality. Besides, there are "tantric" traditions in almost every branch, school, and sect of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and none of them agree with each other. It's silly to say this "isn't about Tantra," as if there were only ONE religious version of Tantra. There isn't. There are dozens, and this isn't about any of them.I actually found the end of the book a bit too "spiritual" for my taste, but since the whole thing is three books for the price of just the first one, I regard that as a minor flaw. It's still a good book and a great bargain.You can find a good alternative with some excellent DVDs at The New Sensual Massage Super Package with 2 DVDs, but be prepared for something much more explicit.If you want to learn more about Tantric sexuality from a non-religious perspective, there's a very good blog called "Extraordinary Passion: The Art and Science of Modern Tantra" at moderntantra.blogspot.com.

Such a cute book. I bought it for my son so that my mom and dad can read it to him after owning the English version. Surprisingly it turns out my brother had such a great time reading it to him and making the animal sounds. Not a complicated book, translates well and they kept with the rhyming, which was great!

It's not near as catchy in Spanish as it is in English. However, this is my son's favorite book in English so to get it and read it in Spanish is a great way to help integrate Spanish into our bilingual household. It is a very good translation in Spanish, but only 4 stars because it is hard to compare to the very good and catchy rhyming and rhythm of the English version.

So, the story is kind of nice--if you don't think too much about its moral--but it's poorly translated. I'm Spanish native speaker and a professor of Spanish and this book, like most of the bilingual books sold by Amazon, is horribly translated.

I thought the book was great, but I won't buy another Kindle book format without audio. My granddaughter did not like it at all. I guess she's not ready for this kind of book.

My 17 month old grandson loves this book! He especially enjoys pointing out the different animals. Its message of teamwork and cooperation is one that I would like to instill. It comes in two versions: one in Spanish, and another in English. We have both books. Beautiful artwork too.

This book is so cute! Originally, my mom bought this book for my son in English. He loved it so much, we got it for his nanny to read to him in Spanish. This book is so colorful, funny and fun to read. It’s a rhyming book which I prefer for the little ones - and has text to keep them interested. I like that it associates a sound with each animal which is fun and good for learning.

Not a "complete poems" volume--which would be very nice to have, but which I don't think exists yet!--but a nice compilation which takes poems written all throughout Hesse's life, and presents them in a very non-chronological sequence, but put into sections according to themes.The title is a little pompous, making it seem like Hesse was an enlightened teacher gazing down upon humanity--which he would disagree with, and which his best poems dispute--in fact making him to appear like the pompous old image of Goethe which he so criticized in his classic STEPPENWOLF novel--but the contents are very good.It has been argued that some of these English translations seem "New Age-y" in a bad sense, vague and pontifical. I think this was just a tendency of Hesse--who loved nature--and not the fault of the translator; other, earlier translations also seem to have presented this tendency in some of Hesse's poetry. And it's not *bad*, just uninteresting at times. But Hesse at his best--and there are many examples of that in this book--is very edifying and beautiful to read.

This short book is well structured, with an informative and detailed introduction to each section of poems. Each of these excellent introductions give an intimate sense of Hesse the poet, his passions and his torments.The poems that follow were, like most poetry volumes, made up of verses that resonated deeply with me, and others that were interesting to read. Each reader would, I'm sure, find their own favourite poem.Some of the poems were, unexpectedly, less lyrical than I expected from a mystical poet. Perhaps some essence was lost in translation (always a difficult task) or perhaps this is Hesse's Germanic voice - rather sombre and heavier in tone than other mystical poets such as Yeats, Rilke, Kabir or Gibrain.Overall, this book is very good. The introductory pieces followed by a selection of poems grouped into common themes (Love, Inspiration, Nature, Dialogue with Divine and Seasons of Life) made this easy to read and accessible. The poems in the section on The Seasons of Life and the Passage of Time are particularly moving.

I was excited to purchase and receive this collection, especially after seeing good reviews on Amazon. Hesse has been perhaps my favorite author since reading Siddartha as a teenager, and I keep returning to Steppenwolf, Demian, along with Journey to the East, long after having read each of these for the first time. While there is no doubt, to my mind, that Hesse was one of the greatest writers of his time, the translation you will find here is severely lacking. What struck me as immediately telling about its quality was the sense that I was reading cheap new-age banter, comprised by the foreward and other exegetical material. This is divided into snippets from both the translator and another person, both of whom seem to offer some fine and accurate remarks, but also a good deal of exposition that is frankly overdone and sappy. The biggest disappointment, however, was the fact that many poems which rhyme in the original German have not retained this feature in the English. Nor have they retained their proper rhythm. I can acknowlege that this would have been no simple feat, but such is the work of good translation. For an example, consider "Stufen," one of Hesse's finest cosmic poems, the one which the collection ends in. Fischer translates the title as "Stages," which gets at the meaning of the poem, but it is precisely this sort of straying from the letter of the piece that illuminates the sort of liberties he's already taken to interpret for the reader. The intention with this collection was good, but the execution seems to me flawed. One gets the suspicion from it that Fischer's German is simply not up to the task. Some might call me a Steppenwolf for complaining like this, and I would concur entirely.

I had the pleasure of reading this slim bound volume of Herman Hesse’s poems recently in the local library and simply had to purchase a copy of my own. I had read Herman Hesse when I was a teenager but it is the beautiful and sensitive translation of these poems by Ludwig Max Fischer that helped me to once more appreciate the depth and boldness of Hesse’s writing. The poems in this edition are divided into five sections roughly corresponding to the topics of love, inspiration, finding meaning, the divine and growing old. Each candid poem resonated deeply as now I read it not only admiring the beauty and power of the poems but from experiences encountered and memories accumulated. What is so moving is the poems speak a universal language of thoughts, emotions, questions, doubts, resolutions that transcend time, space and culture. I find this a book for those not only seeking inspiration but who enjoy the beauty of language and imagery as solace for the soul.

I've loaned it once too many times and am missing referring to it, but it's impossible to get it back; one-of-a-kind, in the very best sense of those words. I ordered his other book for $100 as a result of this one which is a total first and probably last for me to do.

I did not realize what a wonderful poet Hesse was until I read this book. Sensitive, Evocative and Compelling. Fischer's commentary truly gives a sense of the influences that were behind this great writer. A book to cherish. Thank you !

Love Love Love this book! So easy to use and read and has some fabulous recipes in it. Especially love the adult boozy section of ice cream. All I have ever made in my KitchenAid ice cream maker is vanilla so now I can make all kinds of ice cream and make my investment worth it's money finally. Thanks to the author for writing this book.

So far, all recipies we have tried from the book have not turned out very well. We successfully made the ice cream/ gelato but it just didn't taste very good. However, all of the recipies we have found online have worked out great and taste great. It is anecdotal, but the recipies in this book just seem subpar so far.

I have always been suspicious of ESP. (Maybe jealous because I've never experienced it?) And frankly, I'm not that compelled by an interest in Sasquatch. So this seemed an unlikely choice for me to read. But somehow, I gave it a shot. And I found the whole book immensely readable, impressive in scope, and persuasive in conclusions. The way that Christopher Noel gradually brings the reader along, piling up more and more evidence and people's real-life accounts, really does the trick. And then he spends the second half of the book on explaining the science behind the personal stories. I recommend Mindspeak even if you, too, are a doubter!!

This is one of the most tedious, dry text books I have ever read.

This book came with water damage and food spots on many pages. The pages are worn and you can for sure tell that it has been used quite a bit. It will do for the semester but wish I knew the condition of the book before ordering.

I needed this book for class. I like that it is easy to read, and that there is little fluff. I noticed that there are a lot of grammatical errors, though. Other than that, great book.

Finally. A textbook I can actually read and understand fully. This is very well laid out.

Have to read this for class...I don't know who is having a more difficult time, me the reader or the one who wrote it...sheesh this is brutal!
