Calling My Name is so relatable. Okay, my family is not so religious that they force us to act accordingly. I felt this on a deeper level, and Taja always feeling like her family doesn't understand her is something I know firsthand. I felt like I lived a double life growing up. My paternal and maternal families are so different, and I still wonder how my mom and dad ever crossed paths and created 3 children. LOLSeriously, I had some doubts about this book before I began. They were unfounded as soon as I started to read. Liara Tamani is very talented, and this debut is nothing short of beautiful. The writing is so on point, and I am so glad that I read this.
There is not another piece of literature on this earth that is as beautiful, captivating, and emotional as this. Never have I read such wonderful, captivating, and original writing. Never have I ever understood so deep a character as Taja. This book speaks to me. In every way I want to write like Liara Tamani. Little words express how beautiful this book is.
