For me, reading The Letter-Kitty's Story brought me back to my roots with the language I grew up speaking and hearing. Therefore I was instantly captivated by not only the mostly likeable ensemble characters but by the wonderful backdrop of the North Yorkshire Moors and York itself; areas I'm familiar with.With the laugh out loud humour, Ms Scott kept me highly entertained as Kitty finally finds the courage to walk away from her toxic marriage. With more shocking revelations exposed, the light-hearted narrative still manages to deal with the seriousness of other social issues exposed in a timely manner. With entertaining banter flying between the characters, many of the secondary ones are exaggerated caricatures, yet this only adds to their overall charm. There's a lot happening in and around the chocolate box pretty Lytell Stangdale and sometimes I felt too many secondary plot threads were introduced which didn't add anything significant to the overall narrative. I kept up with them all but felt some could be used in future books.To sum up, a delightful début novel. I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I began reading this story which far exceeds my expectation. I've read similar small town/community series based mostly in the US. So, for me, this first book in the "Life on the Moors" series is a welcome breath of fresh air because I can easily relate to the wonderful cast of characters. So whether you are curled up beside a warm fire drinking Kitty's favourite hot chocolate or basking in the sunshine with her other favourite; a glass of Prosecco. The Letter-Kitty's Story is the perfect novel for any time of the year.

First book I've read by Eliza J Scott, I hope to enjoy many more of them. I was hooked form the very beginning, the characters are fresh and fun. A great mix of drama, real life happenings!!

The story -- interesting. The setting -- enchanting. The characters -- very believable.. All these make for a really enjoyable first novel. I can hardly wait to read the sequel!

4.5 STARSWow! Where do I begin with this review? There is so much emotion, twists and turns to Kitty’s journey to happiness!!! I’m so glad I got to join her!Kitty is such a gentle soul and loyal to a fault, often to the detriment of her own well-being! She has a lovely home, a successful husband, and two beautiful children. When you look behind the closed doors of her home, you will see the secrets she is keeping! She does have a wonderful home and great children, but her husband, Dan, is absolute rubbish...a manipulative brute. She has put up with his awful behavior for far too long, and she has had just about enough!!!!The title Eliza J. Scott chose was absolutely perfect!!! This is definitely Kitty’s story. Scott goes back and forth in time to give us the story of Kitty and her marriage to Dan. Through those trips back in time, readers get to see just how manipulative Dan really is, always putting his selfish needs before everyone else’s.I can’t explain how wonderful it was seeing Kitty rediscover who she was and realizing she didn’t need Dan. I found myself fist pumping every time she stood up for herself. I loved seeing her brother, Jimby and friends, Molly and Violet, supporting her as they always had. The book was even better with Ollie, whom had always loved her but always watched her from afar. Now, he is determined to fight for her like he should have when Dan first entered the picture.I adored all the relationships and friendships within the book. The best part was adding Kitty’s deceased mother’s influence throughout the book. Kitty would always feel as if her mother was still with her in some sense through little things and just when she needed her guidance. In a sense, she was a character who had a huge impact on Kitty. If you are looking for a book with plenty emotion, second chances, friendship, and love, look no further than this one!!!!

Although it started off with tense and stressful tones, this cleverly written this book was an unexpected delight. I never would have guessed from the first few tense chapters what a fun and witty tale it was actually going to be, as the character of Dan was thoroughly vile, on edge, and constantly belittling his family. He was also an arrogant and manipulative peacock who couldn’t keep his favorite toy in his pants. I instantly despised him although I initially didn’t hold much respect for the spineless and overly accommodating Kitty for allowing the heinous philanderer to verbally and emotionally abuse her and their children. Thankfully, the book soon evened out with juicy tidbits, insightful observations, and wry humor and I became more relaxed as Kitty began to gain awareness and locate her vertebrae.The overall emotional tone tipped to the scales more heavily toward the comical than the tragic, with humorous anecdotes, cunning observations, and clever levity ruling the day. The engaging storylines were astoundingly well-constructed, shrewdly-paced, absorbing and highly eventful while jam-packed with a village full of colorful characters, hilarious antics, and riveting interactions. I was fully engaged throughout and enjoyed all the secondary characters, although I was more than a bit besotted with Kitty’s brother James.

My goodness, I love this book!!!! My daughter passed away in 2016, she was adopted, the youngest of our four children by 13 years, the only girl, and our only brown skinned child. She was ADORED!!! We loved Sya with all of ourselves, and she loved us back just as complete. What a joy she was! She was born with a heart defect but was placed in our care as a perfectly healthy newborn. We soon realized how sick she was and she had heart transplant at 20 months old. At 6 1/2 she suffered a severe rejection and passed away at 7 years old, unexpectedly. I don't know how I came across this book, but it was the illustrations that caught my eye. I never found many books with brown skinned little girls to read to her...so I looked at this one....I loved the sample text I read and as I read it...I knew I was going to buy it for my youngest niece and nephew...Sya's cousins and best friends. Also adopted....they would not be a part of my brothers family had it not been that Sya was a part of ours. God willing, One day they will grow up and perhaps they will,have questions regarding their adoption, perhaps my girl would have too. I would have read this book to her again and again if she were still here. When I read the part about the dancing....and heaven declaring "you were made in Gods image" I cried. My girl loved to dance and we played a video at her funeral of her dancing and dancing dancing, alone...and She was so full of joy in it. I imagine God was smiling as He watched her, as He smiles at her now that she is home with him.I was planning on giving this book to my niece and nephew for Christmas but as soon as it came and I read it, I took it to them. I love it! I plan on buying more to give as gifts to her classmates!!!

As a pastor and a father of a young daughter, I deeply care about the books she “reads” (she’s only 2½) and has read to her, especially the books that speak of God. I want my daughter to have an understanding of God that reflects the beauty, love, wonder, passion, and creativity we see of God in scripture. I also want her to see herself and her neighbor in compassionate and grace filled ways, as seen in how Jesus loved and called us to love.So it matters to me what books will fill her bookshelves and be found on her nightstand. If I’m being honest I approach most Christian children’s books with an expectation that they are going to be just awful. The thing that bothers me the most about many of the Christian children’s books I have seen is the poor theology they contain and the dumbing down of the message of the Bible.When I received this book, When God Made You to review, the gloves were off. I was ready to mercilessly pick it apart and tell you why you should never read it to your children. But instead, after reading it I couldn’t wait to read this with my daughter and I hope it becomes one of her all time favorites!When God Made You is written by Matthew Paul Turner who has written numerous books, including: Hear No Evil, Churched, and The Coffeehouse Gospel and is illustrated by David Catrow who has illustrated more than 70 children’s books.This book is beautiful in every way. The writing is poetic, the theology is rich, and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Visually this book is stunning and unlike any other children’s book I have seen. My daughter couldn’t take her eyes off the pages as we read the story together.The main theme of the book is celebrating and holding onto the fact that we are all uniquely created by God and we are to live and create and love in the fulness of our God ordained uniqueness. Turner writes in a way that inspires. Not only does my daughter love the story but as an adult I was taken aback by the depth of the writing. This is a book that young ones will enjoy and even as my daughter gets older I want to continue to unpack more of the beauty found in these pages.I so badly want to quote the entire book for you, but since that breaks way too many copyright laws, here are a few of my favorite lines:‘Cause when God made you, this much is true, the world got to meet who God already knew.Discover. In all honesty, this is my all time favorite book! I connect with it so well, it's almost as if I wrote it.It's very informative and just shows you how deep the rabbit hole really is. You'll learn what dark entities are, where they come from, how they operate, their motivation, how they can infest your life, and most importantly, how to get rid of them.Also, one other thing worth noting is that if you have something haunting you, it definitely won't like you reading this book; because it'll help you.So overall, I HIGHLY recommend this book! No doubt, it's truly an amazing experience in of itself.

I truly didn't know what to expect when I ordered this book (other than the topic based). Upon receiving the book and starting to read it, right from page one: it's VERY detail oriented, very knowledgeable, and highly credible. I wished I lived much closer to, as I'd love to have an actual conversation with her, Melinda seems very intelligent, and someone I'd love to "pick her brain". Thank you for writing this book.

The REAL connection behind it all.Well I LOVE this book. You get so much for how little you pay. She does share with you the reality of what it is like being a real gypsy... And why that term isn't a fond one (which I had no idea). But she also shares stories, how to feel connected with nature and its cycles, and alllll kinds of healing techniques. Plus simple things like the power of spoken word and how powerful it can be to let your body feel cold, and dancing like there's no one watching.The best part is it's all authentic. It feels real, like you're talking with a friend who's sharing pieces of her life lessons and traditions with you (but not all of them... Some are sacred!) I also love how I don't feel like I'm stealing someone's heritage or culture. She's simply trying to share old wisdom and simple ways with the world.I need to go back and read through the whole thing again. I have highlighted so much in it. It is such a treasure.

I bought this book because I was curious about gypsy magic and culture. But my ultimate decision on buying it came from what I am facing in my life right now. After re-reading the description of the book I realized that I needed something positive in my life. I NEEDED THIS BOOK!I just read the first chapter right now and I am hooked and excited. This book has given me hope on how to deal with the stresses of life. It does not gloss over bad things, but it does give ways to dig out of the bad things. Best, it supports my personal beliefs of focussing on the positive. There is something soul corrupting about our current culture of negativity. In the course of the day, if you are out in the world, you are bombarded with disease words and illness words. Why do hospitals call themselves "c*ncer centers" and not HEALING centers?This book talks about the power of thoughts, words, etc. It also has SOLID info on eating, grounding, and becoming healthier.Even if you skim it, you will learn something.

This book was suggested to me by some unseen Amazon algorithm. I have always been attracted to things magical, but have always found them to be dangerous. So, I don't mess with them. This is a special book and extremely attractive to me from different points of view. It explains a lot about gypsy or Romani people that I had never known. Here, in my part of the country, we see very few such people and are aware that they are Romany much less frequently. So, it explains them in a way that lets me understand properly. The author says clearly that we are magical creatures and our words have a certain power, whether we choose to see it that way or not. Denial will not change reality. So, she suggests a lot of different approaches that could help a person live better, and I see a lot of it as consistent with proper and heart-felt living. There are, of course, elements that go beyond what I am comfortable with. It is an amazing book, and I think would be helpful to almost everyone. I wish some of our world leaders (many of whom seem to be insane) would read this and give it a go.
