This is an excellent book if you are not familiar with the 5E or Learning Cycle approach to teaching science. It is extremely short, but there is enough information on each topic to get you started using the model in your classroom. If you're using the 5E approach, you'll want to keep this one handy to refer to as you are getting started lesson planning.I highly recommend the 5E approach. Basically, you start by Engaging student's interest (this is the anticipatory set, nothing new there), then having them Explore before Explaining what's going on. That's the big difference with this model. The kids do a lab or activity to gain some knowledge about a concept before you teach it, instead of learning about it and then doing a lab to confirm that what you told them was true. 5E is a much better way to teach science!Now here's why I only gave it four stars. 1) A lot of their examples are aimed at the lower grades. They usually give three examples per topic. Often, one will be for K-2, one for 3-5, and one for 6-12. Ok, so their audience may be more elementary school teachers, but it's not helpful to lump together seven grade levels any way you slice it. Just give four examples. 2) In some sections it feels like an entire book could be written about something they describe in two paragraphs. I'm not faulting them for that; this is a brief overview. My quibble is that they could have included a lot more citations so that you could follow up with topics you want to explore in more depth. I guess I'd have liked an annotated bibliography.

I've read a lot of outdoor adventure books and this is a great one. A nice switch from the "I climbed a mountain and almost died" type book (which I love.) As another reviewer said, I would have loved more photos. But the read was first rate. The feeling it gave me of being so far from civilization was excellent.

Adventure and conservation in one of the worlds most legendary places. There are not that many places left to explore in our world and this story is about exploring one of the last places. Highly recommended!

 This is a really “sweet” coloring book of desserts. The variety range from wedding and birthday cakes to counter displays of penny candy. It is the perfect set of designs for those who like to color delicious and sweet treats. The desserts are displayed in a beautiful manner rather than just a cake or such. You will see a full table design with drinks or backgrounds in many of the illustrations. It certainly makes it a lot more fun to color when I can imagine the whole table set with deliciousness.The designs are detailed but not what I consider intricate with small areas to color. I am able to use a wide variety of coloring medium on these designs.While you can have access to .PDFs when you purchase this book, my review is based on the book as it is received from Amazon. That way you will know what the pages look like and how they accept color. I like that the publisher provides the digital version as well so you can choose the paper you wish to use and/or to color the pictures as many times as you choose.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:25 x 2 each – Dessert inspired Designs covering a wide range of subjectsPaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated. The back of the page is printed black which is something I am find typical of Jade Summer coloring books.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a heavy framing line at the outer edges of the design to give the project a more finished look, especially for framing. There is a slight shadowing effect to the framing line which gives the image an almost 3D effect.Glue Binding (there is room to cut the pages out if you choose to do so.)Though you cannot see the bleed-through easily due to the back of the page being printed in black, I recommend the use of a blotter page when working in this book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.

The coloring books produced by CreateSpace have a more than decent price-quality ratio, in my eyes. Sure, you can't expect outstanding, artist-grade paper quality for this very afforable price, but the paper *is* good enough so you can color with colored pencils, crayons and marker – with only minor drawbacks.The paper is relatively absorbant, so ink from different kinds of makers gets soaked up pretty quickly, which makes it harder to mix different colors or use a blender. Also, if you color too many times over the same spot, the paper starts to feel rough or gets just a bit wavy. Some markers tend to bleed through to the back of the pages, too.However! The coloring books by Jade Summer offer a few good solutions for these issues:For one thing, all images are single-sided with the back of the page printed in black, so the bleedthrough doesn't really matter, in my opinion. I would recommend the use of a blotter page, though! Just to make sure the ink doesn't bleed all the way through to the next illustration.Also, each of the 25 illustrations is included twice, so can easily test different color schemes or marker types or coloring techniques.For me, the biggest bonus is this, though: the books comes with a coupon code that allows you to download a PDF version. If you like the illustrations, but not the CreateSpace paper, you can print the illustrations out as often as you like and on the paper of your chosing! You can also download a small selection of the artist's most popular coloring pages.The illustrations are beautiful, with lovely backgrounds and settings. They are not overly intricate, so they should be good for beginners and children, but the pictures have a nice level of detail, nevertheless, so they are also nice for experienced coloristas. The lineart is very clean and a joy to color.

I found the coloring pages in Delicious Desserts coloring book delicious. Gives me opportunity to use colored pencils, gel pens and markers. My only negative issue is that the pages are not perforated. I always remove the pages of a coloring book to scan them then print them on my favorite which is white construction paper. This way I can color a page a second time if I want to.

Lots of yummy desserts to color! I use Copic markers and it doesn't show up on the black back pages. Includes two copies of each plus a downloadable PDF on Jade Summer's web site.I didn't realize I had to email her with the title and access number to receive a copy. I emailed her this morning so I'm not sure how long it takes.UPDATE: Received the PDF file in less than 24 hours.

One of my favorite coloring books! I love to color food designs, and these are great. Not overly simple like a lot of the food-themed books out there.Printed on one side, pages are black on the back. 25 different designs with a duplicate of each. Well constructed. There's a digital copy available from the publisher when you purchase, which is awesome.

Pictures are drawn really well and are not too complicated. There are a couple of pictures where you cannot really tell what the dessert is but other than that this is a great book for beginner and advanced coloring fans.

I love that it is two of each page it has spured many contests as well as tge fun of seeing what I and my daughter both do with the same picture.The treats are very fun to color, large enough to do nice shading, and so colorful. Would recommend and would buy more from this artist.

Nice black line drawings of all type of deserts: cakes, pies, ice cream, etc. The paper is heavy enough to use color markers on without bleeding through the paper.

This book is cute and my daughter enjoys the touch and feel aspect. She is a little young, only four months old, to enjoy this book completely, as it is pretty wordy for her age, but I see her enjoying it a lot more as she gets older. The pictures are great too.

Very nice book. I ordered two of the bright baby brand touch and feel books and one DK brand touch and feel. I do NOT recommend the DK brand. Terrible quality and the "feel" parts are so small I can barely fit my finger on them. This book on the other hand has good quality, large "feel" spots and is over all nice looking.

Nice and compact small board book size.Minimal text but colorful pages and easy for babies to feel with nice large areas to touch.

Cute, simple, and engaging for my 9 month old. I just wanted a book that would give opportunities to learn animal sounds, but the parts you can feel are a plus!

My 10 month old absolutely loves these touch and feel books. He's liked them since he was about 5 months old. We got the "Baby Animals" book as a shower gift and its hands down been his favorite book ever. I have it memorized we've read it so many times. He liked it so much I searched out other books made by the same author. So very pleased with all their books and I think my boy will enjoy them for a long time.

Nice thick board book, great touch and feel parts, but there are way too many words on each page and "story" is way too complicated for that young of age child. My grandson has me read this book last every time, but he still does like it because of touch and feel and because I don't read full story because he's ready to turn page before then.

Bright colors and great pictures. I wouldn't suggest this book for everyday use. My 15month grandson loves this book and after 2 weeks of daily flipping of pages it is falling apart. The binding is broken and the pages are coming unattached. He doesn't chew on the book so this is just from him turning the pages over and over.

This book is very cute & perfect to take along while you’re out and about. The pictures are sharp and bright. My son really loves it! The price point is great too! This is a great series for toddlers & I highly recommend buying them.

My 6 month old son loves his book. It has colorful pages, with realistic pictures. I like that each texture is distinctly different. Also, the textures are fairly close to the real animal textures.
