Two of the most often recommended texts for medical students are Gray's Anatomy for Students (GAS), descended from the iconic text by Henry Gray, and Clinically Oriented Anatomy (COA), by Moore, Dalley and Agur. "Both texts employ a regional approach to the study of anatomy. GAS separates each chapter into four sections: Conceptual Overview, Regional Anatomy, Surface Anatomy and Clinical Cases. The conceptual overview aims to provide the very basic concepts of each region in a concise summary before moving on to an increasingly detailed description. While this approach may be useful for the beginner or reviewer, the inevitable repetition creates a degree of redundancy. COA presents information in a 'bones up' format, progressively adding surrounding structures before detailing the arthrology of each region. Each chapter concludes with a series of radiographic images to complement integration and understanding. "Certain striking distinctions are evident in the textual quality of each book. GAS aims to strip away irrelevant information into an easy-to-read summation while leaving intricate details for other texts. While this provides an excellent introduction for the neophyte, COA includes more rigorous explanations concerning the finer points and the complex interaction with surrounding structures. An enlightening example of the differing styles can be observed through the treatment attributed to the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle. A concise, tabular description of muscular attachments, innervations and basic function is provided in GAS in association with a stylised diagram indicating its position in the neck. Conversely, COA devotes an entire four page sub-section to a detailed discussion of the manner in which body position and the use of synergist muscle groups can alter function of the SCM beyond an isolated view of the muscle acting independently in the anatomical position. Thus, while simplified to enhance the initial integration of basic concepts, GAS may simultaneously perpetuate certain erroneous notions concerning the nature of anatomical function. On the other hand, the text in COA may reduce its effectiveness for the uninitiated, while GAS may prove to be too simplistic for the interested student.  "Both books approach diagrammatical representation through the use of computer-generated imagery, though distinct dissimilarities are visible. COA depicts each region by incorporating detailed and realistic diagrams which are thoroughly labelled. In contrast, GAS represents analogous images through a distinctly stylised fashion. Major structures are portrayed in an idealistic mode, which, in combination with relatively sparse labelling, may impede practical application, particularly in medical courses focussed on anatomical dissections. However the simplified overview, devoid of extensive detail, is potentially easier to comprehend for the less experienced anatomist. In addition to detailed, accurate labels, COA consolidates diagrammatic elements through representations in various anatomical planes. The depiction of distinct layers within each system aids the appreciation of the detailed nature of such structures. Ultimately, COA associates these illustrative characteristics through the use of numerous, detailed figures within each specified anatomical region. The use of COA may prove to be beneficial, both in dissection and in providing a broader scope of understanding.   "The integration of clinical aspects throughout a text is essential to the effective understanding of anatomical information. Both books appear to have achieved a relatively streamlined integration of such information through the utilisation of clinical vignettes. Complemented with relevant diagrams, topics covered in the text of these vignettes include information relating to development, anatomical variation, radiology and  pathology. For those without significant exposure to anatomy, having clinical information presented in such a fashion is an ideal mode for the consolidation of vital concepts. The use of end of chapter case studies in GAS allows the reader to evaluate their own level of understanding, a feature that is absent in COA. Radiological correlations in GAS are discussed further through an in-text approach. Alternatively, COA utilises radiological imaging juxtaposed with easily understood computer generated diagrams, allowing the student to understand the concepts therein with more clarity. "Through our experience in both learning and teaching, we believe that COA delivers a more comprehensive insight into the study of anatomy. Not only does it encompass a strong clinical foundation, it provides the reader with enhanced factual information and diagrams. Contrastingly, GAS offers equivalent aspects in a more concise, readable form yet neglects more in-depth explanations. The choice of textbook will ultimately depend on both the school curriculum and the eagerness of individual students. Whilst providing an excellent synopsis into the anatomical world, the possibility exists that students may find GAS lacking after covering the basic concepts. DO NOT bUy the eBook version of this book!!! It is unusable for medical school. The page numbers are not on the pages, and the table of contents is pathetic. They do not have sections listed under the chapters, and there are not links in the table of contents (except to the beginning of the chapters). The index does not have page numbers listed by the terms, and the terms are UNCLICKABLE in the index. Moreover, the eBook looks nothing like the pages in real life. They do not even have the same setup. In short, the eBook version is absolutely useless.

Fantastic text book, I recommend it highly, I cannot say enough good things about it. I am currently taking clinical anatomy in med school and I have an A average, I credit it to this book (most certainly not my professors or their notes, lol, if your in med school you know exactly what I mean). Invest in this book it's worth every penny, I actually love it so much I own 2 hard copies (one for school, one for home...it's heavy) and a kindle version.

Originally was going to give it 5 stars for the affordable text that is pretty clear and easy to read with plenty of pictures. HOWEVER, I was reading the head chapter and found 30 pages were printed upside down and out of order!! Seems silly but it's really annoying when you're creating a study guide and are constantly flipping back and forth between sections. Sorely disappointed.

I'm reading this book on my PC, and I was quite disappointed by the size of the images using the kindle PC app, so I tried reading it on the kindle cloud reader. What a difference! Images are larger and clearer!It displays well on my kindle fire and since it came with a subscription to the publisher's site, which allows viewing the book online for a while - I can expand the images on my PC and really take advantage of the great illustrations.As for content, this book is worth every penny. Descriptions are very nicely worded and extremely understandable and the clinical "blue boxes" provide extremely useful information.

I'm a 1st year med student and have used this book a lot this year. I think the text is easy to read and the pictures are pretty good, but it is very detailed which can sometimes be overwhelming. I see myself coming back to this book in my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years and beyond for reference but it was hard at times to get through in my 1st year as I was building a knowledge foundation for anatomy. I also liked that the access code gave me full access online to the whole book (and not just part like some textbooks do).This book is written by region and not by system, which was a little frustrating for me because my curriculum is being taught by system. However, that's not their fault. I hear that medical schools are converting their curricula to "systems based" and if Moore publishes a book like this by system, I would buy it. I'm a naturopathic medical student and we tend to look at the body by systems so that is also just my personal bias.

This is a very nice, dense, textbook of anatomy for serious anatomy students (e.g. future surgeons) that I would give five stars were it not for inconsistencies and errors that plague the book. No, there are not 12 cervical vertebrae! That is the most obvious error I've found so far. There are several, but considering the size and density of the text the number of plain errors is not grossly out of proportion. The more serious offense this book commits, in my opinion, is to disagree with itself, which can seriously hinder learning the material. Often, Moore will say one thing in the text, another in the summary text, and yet another in the illustrations he refers to! For example, Moore says that the right bronchial artery often is a branch of the 3rd posterior intercostal artery, but the illustration he refers the reader to clearly shows the right bronchial artery as a branch of the FIFTH posterior intercostal artery. In the abdomen chapter, Moore says the arterial supply to the anterolateral abdominal wall includes 11th posterior intercostal artery, but the table and illustration referred to also includes the 10th posterior intercostal artery.I'm sure that some of these discrepancies can be chalked up to normal anatomical variations, but for God's sake tell us that or we have no way of knowing whether it is an error or variation! Anyway, these discrepancies happen with a high enough frequency that it warrants a two star deduction on an otherwise pristine textbook of anatomy.

I used an earlier edition of this textbook as a medical student. I have found this edition to be excellent. I have it on my Kindle which puts this excellent book at my fingertips as a reference. The "blue" boxes are fabulous as they were when I was a medical student but the anatomical explanation are priceless too. Yes, this is a very dense book but it is very readable too. I encourage my students to set a daily reading schedule which this book's organization allows nicely. A continued excellent textbook in many respects.

They feature recipes, if you want to do a Tea Party for an afternoon gathering for a book club, new products review club and other social gathering events. Some of their famous selections are here like their basic shortbread, watercress tea sandwiches and other staples you find in an Afternoon Tea Party. Just an awesome recipe book filled with pictures and easy to follow recipes.

This is a small book, but at least the publishers made an effort. The one I ordered from Elizabeth Fellows was such a pathetic booklet, it arrived damaged, and I would have been too ashamed to have it in view anyway. This little book is a pretty hard cover with illustrations, information, and REAL recipes (not just a shopping list of ingredients that the author assumes that you'll slap together somehow). Afternoon tea is as much presentation as it is taste, and this book appears to respect that. This is a lovely addition to the bookshelf or table.

I collect tea books, and this is my favorite. A brief history and explanation of tea is followed by authentic recipes for tea- time. Fortnum and Mason, one of my favorite places to visit for tea in London, has generously shared some of their delicious recipes in this book. Perhaps if you go to London, you will visit one of their sites. They are a three hundred year old grocery that supplies the Queen. The clerks wear tails, and the doorman has a top hat. There is a wonderful tea salon there. Having this book will help me recreate one of my best tea experiences in London!

I was looking through this book at fortnum and Mason in London and decided it was worth buying, just not for £30. I used their free WiFi to look on Amazon and bought it used for about $18. It's a nice classic British book with a lot of stories You can actually 'read'this cookbook in addition to just following recipies. I've made the classic scone recipe a few times and they are pretty tasty and simple.

That's the Kindle version cover (not the same as on the book), some illustrations, but when you get to the recipes in the Kindle book you're flying blind, and would be hard pressed to recreate them from the descriptions alone in some cases. Quite disappointing that they chose to cheap out for the Kindle version, right down to the cheap no one cares cover image for it. I wouldn't have bought it had I known.In the description where you can click to see images of the book, keep in mind those AREN'T in the Kindle version. Not one recipe has an image in the Kindle book.I returned the Kindle book for a refund and will buy the hard copy book.I hate when they do this. They shouldn't be allowed to do this and sell on Amazon.

This is a beautiful little book; a nice addition to any tea book collection. There are some wonderful recipes here, and nice photographs. Fortnum & Mason Royal Blend is my favorite English tea blend; however, it doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. Perhaps for that reason, the recipes in this book measure the ingredients in grams; no ounces or cups. Baking temperatures are given in degrees Fahrenheit (as well as C and gas mark). Although small, this is a quality book that most tea lovers would enjoy.

A small, elegant book with beautiful color photos and great recipes. Endorsed by the Chairman of Fortnum & Mason, it would make a very tasteful gift with a tin of F&M's beautifully packaged tea. Williams-Sonoma has the lowest online prices for that.The hardcover book lists at $19.99. I bought a Like New copy on Amazon Marketplace for $9.94 Total.

I had just been to London for my first and probably only time and was completely unaware of Fortnum & Mason up until walking into the duty-free shop in Heathrow airport. There I found their products and some rose biscuits that were to-die-for. Wanting to reproduce them (since shipping from there would unfortunately be rather extravagant), stumbled upon this book with a key recipe. Multiple recipes look absolutely scrumptious and I'm looking forward to trying them. The book is not just recipes, in the beginning there is actually a history of tea that is a pretty interesting read! Nice illustrations and photos in this book - it's well put together. Nice little book that would make a cute gift for anyone enthusiastic about tea.
