If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. It is a good introduction to astronomy from both a scientific and Christian perspective. As a Bible-believing Christian, I love the way that Dr Lisle uses the Bible to show the Biblical basis for the idea that the earth is about 6000 years old. He also gives a strong scientific basis for a "young earth" including the rapidly decaying magnetic field of the earth, the moon's moving away from the earth, and the weakening magnetic fields of the planets, just to name a few examples. It is also written on 2 levels, with 'basic" stuff on a white background and "advanced" stuff on a darker background. The basic truths require very little physics if any to understand, and even the "advanced" stuff only takes a basic knowledge of physics to understand. It also has a lot of end notes and a good index. It is not as thorough a book as some of his others (like The Ultimate Proof of Creation, which is a good apologetics book) but then it is meant to be a more general, short introduction to astronomy from the Christian perspective! It also has a lot of good logical arguments for creation in it and also shares the Gospel-as it shows how the real purpose of the heavens and their design is to show people that they must trust Jesus as their Savior and Lord to get to heaven!
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read!! Nicely done.It makes superb points on how modern astronomy is so messed up, all because it does not understand what it means when the Bible says "In the beginning God CREATED..." You will clearly understand why there is no way the universe is 13 billion years old and the earth 3.5 billion years old--NO WAY!You will be seriously rethinking all you have been taught about the universe all your life in schools and textbooks. Beware!
This is a nice little book on Creation and Astronomy.Anything that helps put the kibosh on Darwin's Monkey Religion and its auxiliaries is a blessing.Dr. Jason Lisle is a genius and gifted educator. Higly recommended.
A beautiful hardcover book great for a basic introduction to Young Universe Astronomy. Nice glossy full color pages with beautiful images of space.Black pages with white letters makes it easy to ready and was a nice change from black text on white pages I always see.
Astronomy in ways is an old field of science, in other ways, it is relative new in terms of discovery. This book by Dr. Jason Lisle discusses the importance of ones worldview in driving the interpretation of the data, particularly in terms of origins. Jason discusses various astronomical facts and theories regarding the universe and its origin. It is great introductory book for the those unfamiliar with Astronomy, who also have a love for the Lord and His Word. Dr. Lisle discusses many of the amazing facts about our solar system and the universe, but also provides some provocative insights into the origin of them. This book is relatively short at about 125 pages, but is packed with beautiful full-color pictures, and lots of interesting discussion on various astronomical topics. He challenges some of the long-age uniformatarian beliefs by presenting evidences that present difficulty with such a worldview. Other discussion are interesting and informational. Some of the interesting discourses concerning blue stars, the frequency shift of light due to gravity, motion and expansion of the universe, the conservation of mass-energy, the law of gravity, why we always see the face of the moon, difficulties with the Bing-bang theory, and others. The book is written for the Christian lay-person by a gifted Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, whom I very much appreciate.
A wonderful book with many color picture illustrations.Dr. Lisle backs up what he says with scripture verses.A must read for anyone who has questions about the origin of our universe.
Lisle's book was a good review of astronomical features that favor a young universe. The recession of the moon from the earth is about 1.5"/yr. For the earth-moon system, going back 6-10,000 years would mean the moon would have been about 800 feet closer at the beginning of creation, but if the earth and moon have existed for billions of years, then the moon would have been touching the earth a bare billion years ago. +Comets disintegrate with each pass by the sun and would waste away after a few hundred thousand years. Astronomers typically respond to this by saying comets in the unobserved Oort Cloud of comets beyond the orbit of Pluto contribute new comets over time.Lisle describes many other astronomical features that provide evidence for a young universe. Of course, these features are overlooked or explained away (inadequately) by those who want a multi-billion year old universe. This book is a good place for young students to begin their study of astronomy.
Jason clear lays out the facts of the biggest issues between biblical and materialistic world views as they relate to astronomy. Objective consideration is all that you need to bring.
